Tom Pappert, lead reporter at The Tennessee Star, said Vice President Kamala Harris’ remarks comparing former President Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler shows that her campaign is “out of talking points” and has “lost every single issue” in the last few days leading up to the November 5 general election.
On Wednesday, just 13 days before the November 5 general election, Harris delivered televised remarks from the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., where she compared her opponent to genocidal dictator Adolf Hitler.
“Trump said he wanted generals like Adolf Hitler had. He wants a military that is not loyal to the Constitution, but loyal to him…It is deeply troubling and incredibly dangerous that Donald Trump would invoke Adolf Hitler, the man who is responsible for the deaths of six million Jews and hundreds of thousands of Americans,” Harris said.
The vice president was referencing claims former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly made against Trump, his former boss.
Harris’ remarks were described as “desperate,” “inflammatory poison,” and a “dog whistle to potential assassins” by allies of the former president.
In an exclusive statement to The Star, former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy was among those who called for Harris to apologize for her Wednesday remarks.
Pappert said Harris’ remarks are a sign that her campaign is becoming “increasingly desperate” with less than two weeks to go before Election Day.
“That’s really why Kamala Harris came out with this Nazi jargon that she did yesterday. I think they’re out of talking points. They’ve lost every single issue to the former president, and now all they have are mean names,” Pappert said on Thursday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.
Pappert also pointed out how the past remarks by Kelly which were used to inspire Harris’ remarks were “unsubstantiated allegations” which were used during the 2020 election to help then-candidate Joe Biden over the finish line.
“These are, at the very least, four year old unsubstantiated allegations, but really the left and people who dislike Donald Trump have been calling him a fascist since at least 2015. So these allegations are almost 10 years old, but really John Kelly first came out against Trump during the 2020 election in a bid to help President Joe Biden win, get him over the edge,” Pappert explained.
“So it seems pathetic almost that the so-called October surprise from four years ago is being rehashed as though it’s breaking news by a woman who is floundering and flailing in the polls,” Pappert added.
Pappert went on to echo Ramaswamy’s call for Harris to apologize for her remarks, saying, “I think she should be called to apologize.”
“She should be made out to be the absurd one here, the one who is acting inappropriately, not anybody on the right,” Pappert said.
