Jack Windsor, president and editor-in-chief at The Ohio Press Network, said the Biden-Harris administration’s immigration policy is allowing American companies to turn to hiring migrant workers for cheaper labor over hiring Americans or moving production out of the U.S., which is how cities like Springfield, Ohio has led to being flooded with Haitians.
In 2020, the population of Springfield was 58,622, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
In just three years, the city is estimated to have taken in upwards of 20,000 Haitian refugees, increasing Springfield’s population by more than 30 percent.
Windsor is bringing attention to the city’s strained resources and public services since the arrival of the Haitians.
Springfield residents have pleaded for help from local and state officials as the influx of Haitian migrants in the city has reportedly resulted in an uptick in car accidents, increased housing prices, and strained public services, including health care services.
Windsor said the influx of Haitians in cities like Springfield is the direct result of the Biden-Harris administration’s immigration policies, which have allowed U.S. companies to avoid “bad press” by not moving production out of the country but instead hiring migrant workers for lower wages.
“The reason they came here is that there were jobs…But whenever locals try to go get the jobs that the Haitians are getting, they’re hiring the Haitians,” Windsor explained on Tuesday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.
“Offshoring is such a black eye. If you do it, you get bad press, people don’t like it. But really what’s going on, the Biden-Harris immigration policy program is allowing workers to be brought to the country. So instead of offshoring, they’re keeping the jobs here, but they’re filling them with migrants instead of Americans,” Windsor added.
Windsor said companies turn to hiring migrants through staffing agencies, pay the workers lower wages, and, often, do not offer benefits.
“If they’re working through a staffing agency, which we’ve been able to uncover, there are a couple of staffing agencies that are bringing these migrant workers in, then the businesses don’t have to worry about the trappings of hiring full time workers. So it’s better for the companies because they can pay lower wages and they don’t have to pay benefits,” Windsor explained.
On top of taking American jobs, Windsor said taxpayers are also footing the bill for housing vouchers, government clinic care, and prepaid debit cards for the migrants.
Last week, former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy held a town hall in Springfield to discuss the city’s struggles with the effects of mass migration.
When asked why city and state officials, including the governor, did not attend the town hall event, Windsor pointed out how politicians stay in office when businesses are profiting, as seen with the current mass hiring of migrant workers.
“They’re trying to keep their corporate sponsors happy. Politicians don’t get very far if they don’t have people to contribute to their campaigns. So this is really good for businesses, but it’s atrocious for middle-class people that are already in America. Businesses are profiting. Businesses are doing well. So I think there’s this trade-off which I think politicians appreciate,” Windsor said.
Windsor also pointed out the irony of the current administration’s constant “villainizing” of billionaires while, at the same time, billionaires are “exploding their wealth and at the expense of the middle class” under the administration’s watch.
“The irony here is that wealthy people are getting more wealthy, especially billionaires, the people who own large organizations invested heavily in the stock market for treating workers as disposable inputs,” Windsor explained.
“Now, both the migrants and the citizens in these cities where this is happening are victims. And here’s the crazy part, the Harris-Biden regime, they villainized billionaires and the wealthy, but their migration policies are actually exploding their wealth and at the expense of the middle class. Those are the donors that are returning the favor,” Windsor added.
