Clint Brewer: Democrats Will Not Replace Biden via 25th Amendment

Jul 10, 2024

Recovering journalist and Nashville-area public policy expert Clint Brewer said it is unlikely that President Joe Biden will be pushed out of the presidency via the 25th Amendment or be replaced by another candidate on this year’s presidential ticket.

Last month, during a 90-minute televised debate hosted by CNN, Biden appeared absent-minded and confused, stumbling over his words and losing his train of thought multiple times.

Since his disastrous performance, the national news cycle has been dominated by pundits and Democratic leaders questioning Biden’s abilities to finish his presidential term and another four-year term amid his apparent decline.

While some Democrats have called on Biden to step aside and not run for reelection, it appears the president is adamant about staying in the race to serve another four years.

Others have theorized that Biden may be pushed out of the presidency via the 25th Amendment, which, in addition to a two-thirds vote in both the U.S. House and Senate, would require Vice President Kamala Harris and a majority of the president’s cabinet to be in agreement that he is not in a position to continue carrying out the duties as commander in chief.

However, Brewer said both theories are unlikely, pointing out how the Democratic Party does not have another candidate to unite its base this close to the November 5 presidential election and how Biden’s team is unlikely to turn against their boss via the 25th Amendment.

“I don’t think it’s going to happen. I don’t think we’re there yet,” Brewer said in regards to rumors circulating regarding the 25th Amendment on Tuesday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.

“[Biden] would have to willingly step aside,” Brewer added.

When it comes to replacing Biden as the Democratic presidential nominee, Brewer said, “There’s no path there.”

“There’s no path to replace Biden. That’s not a possibility…That ship has sailed,” Brewer said.

“Who’s waiting in the wings? Governor Whitmer? Who can unite the party? Who could, short of Barack Obama, who could come back and actually get all these people behind someone? Nobody. There isn’t anybody,” Brewer added.

Tom Pappert, reporter at The Pennsylvania Daily Star, said Democrats’ ongoing refusal to accept the election results of the Pennsylvania U.S. Senate race which saw Republican Dave McCormick defeat incumbent Democrat Bob Casey (D-PA) is textbook “election denialism.”

While The Associated Press called the race for McCormick two days after Election Day last week, Casey has refused to concede.
