Christy Kelly: Arizona Voters are Not Going to Show Out to Vote for Kamala Harris

Jul 23, 2024

Christy Kelly, reporter at The Arizona Sun Times, said Arizona voters are not enthusiastic about Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2024 campaign for president amid President Joe Biden’s decision to abandon his reelection bid.

“Kamala Harris is not well liked. Even among Democrats, she’s not well liked. She has done nothing,” Kelly said on Monday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.

Kelly pointed to Harris’ “failed” duty as Biden’s border czar, explaining how Arizonans’ “number one” concern is border security.

“When it comes down to Arizona, our number one concern in Arizona is going to be the border. She was supposed to be the border czar. I think the Democrats were trying to set her up to begin with. I don’t think they ever wanted her to be in line to be president so they give her the most difficult assignment, the most difficult thing that’s hardest for anyone to wrangle in and they give it to her. So I think they actually set her up to fail, but she did indeed fail. She was the border czar. She had never come to Arizona. I think she finally did after being harassed after years as the border czar. Being border czar was her only assignment and she’s done nothing,” Kelly said.

Despite her failure as Biden’s border czar, Kelly pointed out how Harris has shifted her focus on abortion, which is a top issue among Democratic voters.

Arizona, for example, is actively working to enshrine abortion rights into the state’s constitution, Kelly noted.

“Now, Kamala Harris is leaning all in for abortion… She was in Arizona and she did the whole abortion tour because you know the abortion advocates put up 800,000 signatures to get abortion on the ballot to enshrine it into constitutional law, to make it a constitutional right in Arizona,” Kelly explained.

“It’s going to be one of the most expansive abortion bills in the country. It does make it legal almost up to birth. It also makes it to where different providers can give it so it doesn’t have to necessarily be a medical clinic,” Kelly added.

Kelly said Arizonans, if they were to show out to vote in November, would only show out for abortion rights and not because of Harris.

“Are people going to come out for Kamala? I don’t think so. They’re not going to come out for her. What they are going to come out for is the abortion, and then there’s a couple of other things that they put on the ballot propositions,” Kelly said.

Tom Zawistowski, president of the We the People Convention, said Bernie Moreno, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Ohio, continues to lead incumbent U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) leading up to the November 5 general election as a “huge” effort is underway on the ground in the Buckeye State to get out the vote for Republicans.

Zawistowski said Moreno is up by 3 percentage points over Brown. Both candidates have launched a combined $260 million in television ads to persuade voters before Election Day.

Phill Kline, former Kansas Attorney General and current law professor at Liberty University School of Law, said current election laws in the U.S. are “not prepared” to handle the current level of effort seen by leftist nonprofits and the administrative state to manipulate elections in favor of Democratic candidates.

Kline said in the past, election laws were challenged based on “procedure,” which is no longer the case today.

EJ Haust, a digital marketing expert and former journalist who lived in Minnesota for 12 years before relocating to Tennessee, said Minnesota Governor and Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz’s brief appearance on CBS’ “60 Minutes” special, which aired on Monday, further proves that he “cannot be trusted” and “should be nowhere near the White House.”

During the interview, CBS correspondent Bill Whitaker pressed Walz about his answer during the vice presidential debate against U.S. Senator JD Vance (R-OH) regarding his false claim that he was in China in the spring of 1989 as the Tiananmen Square protests took place.

EJ Haust, a digital marketing expert and former journalist who lived in Minnesota for 12 years before relocating to Tennessee, said Vice President Kamala Harris’ “60 Minutes” interview which aired on CBS Monday was noticeably “heavily edited” and is unlikely to move the needle with voters leading up to the November 5 general election.
