All star panelist and author Carol Swain joined Michael Patrick Leahy in-studio on Wednesday’s episode of The Tennessee Star Report to introduce listeners to her first-ever Morning Memorandum. In her first installment, Swain discussed the importance of a strong U.S. military, and her concerns surrounding the weakness of the current leadership heading the world’s premier fighting force that instead is being directed to focus on “diversity.”
TRANSCRIPT
Michael Patrick Leahy: Well, Carol, there you go. There’s your intro music.
Carol Swain: Michael, I approve of that music. It’s so soothing, like my voice, right?
Michael Patrick Leahy: It’s Morning Mood from Edvard Grieg – “Peer Gynt.” That’s a classic.
Carol Swain: Well, thank you so much.
Michael Patrick Leahy: Without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, here is Carol Swain’s Morning Memorandum for Wednesday, September 27th, 2023.
Carol Swain: Okay Michael and listeners out there.
What I’ve really been thinking about is our nation. What does it take to make a nation? I think that most people would say that you would have to have boundaries. You need borders for a nation. But you would also need a strong military. And the whole idea of nation-states, even though there’s a push for globalism, for those of us who are Christians, it’s very biblical to have nations.
So, you know, that’s not a modern concept that you would have nations. But when you flood a country with millions of people from all over the world and you don’t vet those people, you welcome them in, even while your own citizens are suffering. That is very destructive to a nation. And that’s what’s happening in America today.
And so as far as having a nation, if we look at our borders, we don’t have one. But I’m even more concerned about our U. S. military, how weak it is. And recently, there was a vote on a new Joint Chief of Staff. And some of you may recall that Colin Powell was the first black Joint Chief of Staff. I am very concerned about the man that 83 senators voted to confirm last week.
His name is General Charles Brown. He headed the Air Force. He’s black. And his background, he’s a veteran military officer, but as the Chief of Staff at the Air Force, he was a disaster.
Under his leadership, the Air Force went from being marginal in 2021 to very weak in 2023.
And so, he’s the person that the Senate approved.
And, Michael, I don’t know if you know this, but they never held hearings on him. And the job of the Senators, our Senators Marsha Blackburn and Bill Hagerty and the rest of the people in the Senate, they’re supposed to vet officials and you would think, given what happened with General Milley, who many of us believe should be tried for treason because he actually went behind President Trump’s back to conspire with China to tell them if the president issued an order to attack, that he would let them know.
You would think that, given all of that information. That they would have vetted the next chief. No, they did not. And in this 83 to 11 vote, with 11 Republicans voting against Brown he was confirmed. And I think that is a disaster. And I believe that he was confirmed because of race.
My book, The Adversity of Diversity, really points to the fact that the Affirmative Action-Diversity, Equity, Inclusion-CRT regime, it violates our Constitution’s Equal Protection Clause. It also violates our Civil Rights Act that these racial preference programs, and I believe repeatedly we have seen Republicans fail us because they will not challenge a minority. Whether it was Barack Obama – there were plenty of ways that Barack Obama could have been attacked, but he was not attacked.
And so getting back to General Brown, who is now the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He has said that his priority is “diversity.” He wants to make the military more inclusive. The job of the military is to protect the American people against foreign and domestic threats. It’s about protecting people.
And he has certainly lost sight of that.
And some of the people who stood strong, and I’m going to read these and I hope I don’t miss anyone: Senators Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, Mike Lee, Roger Marshall, J.D. Vance, Ron Johnson, Cynthia Loomis, Marco Rubio, Tommy Tuberville, Eric Schmitt, and Mike Braun.
All of these people voted against General Brown, as they should have.
And so, I’m very disappointed this morning with Senator Hagerty and Senator Blackburn. I voted for both of them.
And I understand Senator Hagerty was on this show and he said that his vote was influenced by Tom Cotton, and there’s word out in the street, and I have access to the streets of Washington, that Tom Cotton has become an accommodationist, and he may have his eyes on Mitch McConnell’s position.
He has joined forces – that’s not the first time he’s done something that caused me to raise my eyebrows – but when we elected our Senators, they’re not supposed to be looking to other members of the Senate about how to vote. They should be voting their own conscience. And so they should be among this list of esteemed people who have the courage to vote against General Brown.
That’s my commentary.
Michael Patrick Leahy: And there you have it folks.
That is the Carol Swain’s Morning Memorandum for September 27th 2023.
