Carol Swain and Neil W. McCabe Explain Why Pro-Life Organizations, Fake Christians ‘Talk the Talk’ but Have ‘No Interest in Ending Abortion’

Apr 11, 2024

Dr. Carol M. Swain and national political reporter Neil W. McCabe, while discussing the politics surrounding the topic of abortion, identified how some seemingly pro-life groups and individuals who claim to be Christians “talk the talk and not walk the walk” when it comes to protecting the unborn.

McCabe gave the example of the National Right to Life, which McCabe said “had no interest in ending abortion,” due to profits the group was bringing in.

“The politics are very difficult because what you have is you have this pro-life industry that has been operating for the last 50 years. When I was in D.C. for One America News, I actually covered how National Right to Life blocked Steve King’s heartbeat bill. They did it by pressuring Paul Ryan and the way, it was relayed to me that Paul Ryan would do whatever National Right to Life told him to do. The National Right to Life had no interest in ending abortion because if they ended abortion, they’d have to shut down their offices and they’d have to figure out another way to buy their kid a bike for Christmas,” McCabe explained on Thursday’s episode of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.

“So when the politics were there to really do something to protect the unborn, National Right to Life and other sort of pro-life organizations either dropped the ball or worked to undermine it,” McCabe said.

Swain said she is familiar with the situation in regards to organizations not working towards the goal they advocate for.

“I’ve actually heard the same thing that the pro-life organizations, many of the ones that we have, been taught to respect, actually work against abortion rights. That would be consistent with the corrupt underbelly of politics in America, organizations get infiltrated and then people, when money’s involved, they will do what serves their bottom line. They don’t necessarily care about the greater good. They accomplish a goal and then they go and find something else to do. So that’s sad. It’s very sad,” Swain said.

The conversation then pivoted to a discussion about how lawmakers have reacted to the Arizona Supreme Court’s ruling on abortion that only allows the procedure to be done if the mother’s life is at risk.

Former President Donald Trump and Arizona U.S. Senate candidate Kari Lake are among the Republicans who have spoken out against the ruling, arguing it goes too far. Both have been criticized for their stance on the issue.

However, McCabe said Trump is the “most pro-life president” the nation has had in the post-Roe era.

“I’m tired of people jumping all ugly on Donald Trump as if Donald Trump is opening abortion clinics. Donald Trump is the most pro-life president we’ve ever had, or certainly in the post-Roe era,” McCabe said.

McCabe noted how Trump’s position against a national abortion ban is an example of the former president advocating for federalism.

“It’s federalism. I never saw [Trump] as an advocate of federalism because that’s something, in the Nixon years and the Reagan years, everybody was talking about the need to get back to federalism and decentralization. I never saw Trump as the actual guy who would do it but once again, you have Trump who was actually doing things that these other conservatives just talk about all the time and never get anything done,” McCabe explained.

Swain, noting how one of the individuals to knock Trump for his position on a national abortion ban was former Vice President Mike Pence, said she is “fed up with” Christians who “talk the talk and not walk the walk” on issues, including abortion.

“I am just fed up, Neil, with…Christians who talk about their faith and then when you watch the actions, they’re just all talk, it seems. So I would prefer that the politicians, if they’re just going to talk the talk and not walk the walk, just keep your mouth shut,” Swain said.

Tom Pappert, lead reporter at The Tennessee Star, said he believes President Joe Biden is “sabotaging” Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign out of “pure resentment” for how the Democratic Party pushed him to end his reelection bid.

On Tuesday, Biden said on a Zoom call with members of the nonprofit organization Voto Latino that supporters of former President Donald Trump were “floating…garbage.”
