Tennessee’s Robby Starbuck Takes on New Role With the Heritage Foundation as a Visiting Fellow

Apr 9, 2025

Robby Starbuck, Tennessee political commentator and documentary filmmaker, recently took on a role at the Heritage Foundation as a visiting fellow to lead the conservative think tank’s capital markets initiative.

The Heritage Foundation’s capital markets initiative “encourages businesses to prioritize merit and ethics over divisive agendas that are unethical, immoral, and illegal—like so-called diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies,” according to the think tank.

In addition, the think tank said Starbuck will also “lend his communications expertise towards strategy and messaging on environmental, social, and governance (ESG)-based investing.”

On Tuesday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show, Starbuck described his work at the Heritage Foundation, on top of his work exposing American companies for their DEI initiatives, as “another tool in the tool belt to advance conservative ideals across corporate America.”

“We’re going to continue our independent operation fully under my control here in Middle Tennessee which focuses a lot on national efforts. We’re still doing all the same stuff, but we’re also taking on this project with the Heritage Foundation. I think collectively, we’re going to be able to advance a lot of change for our side,” Starbuck said.

Starbuck said one area of change he looks forward to working on at the think tank is to ensure conservative dollars are being spent “effectively” to advance conservative values.

“One thing I’m very concerned about is that the left has effectively used their money to get what they want culturally and they come together to do that. The right hasn’t done that effectively in a very long time. Conservatives haven’t done that effectively in a very long time. So as a conservative, I want to coalesce a lot of the conservative dollars around our values and make sure that we’re using it effectively,” Starbuck explained.

“There’s a lot of tools within Heritage to be able to do that. They have institutional knowledge and ability to advance policy throughout government…Advancing policy is very important for long-term change, and advocating for the right policies and ensuring that we’re doing all the right things, I think it’s very critical in terms of ensuring long-term success,” Starbuck added.

Phill Kline, former Kansas Attorney General and current law professor at Liberty University School of Law, said the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) release of the 1,299 pages of writings left by Covenant School killer Audrey Elizabeth Hale to independent journalist Megyn Kelly carries legal inconsistencies as a case brought by The Tennessee Star’s parent company regarding the materials continues to be litigated in federal court.

Public Policy Expert Clint Brewer Makes the Case for President Trump’s ‘Reboot’ of the Economy

Clint Brewer, recovering journalist and Nashville-area public policy expert, said President Donald Trump’s “reboot” of the U.S. economy through his reciprocal tariffs trade plan is necessary in order to transform the economy into one that works for all American workers.

Last week, Trump unveiled his “Liberation Day” agenda, which included the U.S. charging 10 percent baseline tariffs on nearly all goods imported from other countries, reciprocal tariffs on nearly 90 countries that have the highest trade deficits with the U.S., and a 25 percent tax on all imported vehicles.

Tom Pappert, lead reporter at The Tennessee Star, said the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) release of the 1,299 pages of writings left by Covenant School killer Audrey Elizabeth Hale to independent journalist Megyn Kelly may have legal ramifications as a case brought by The Star’s parent company regarding the materials continues to be litigated in federal court.

Star News Digital Media, Inc. (SNDM), which owns and operates The Star, and Editor-in-Chief Michael Patrick Leahy sued the FBI in May 2023 to compel the agency to release Hale’s writings.
