Apr 12, 2023

Live from Music Row, Wednesday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed glockstore.com creator Lenny Magill in studio to talk about the upcoming third annual GlockStore open house event.

Leahy: In studio, original all-star panelist, Crom Carmichael and our good friend, one of the best entrepreneurs in America, Lenny McGill of the GlockStore on the web at glockstore.com. Good morning, Lenny.

Magill: Yes, Michael Patrick Leahy. Good morning. And Crom, good to see you again.

Carmichael: Hey, Lenny, good to see you.

Magill: Thank you. Thanks for having me.

Leahy: It’s always fun, and of course, you’ve got a terrific GlockStore here in Nashville located at 1934 Airplane Drive. Crom and I first met you a couple of years ago when you had your grand opening and you moved from California to Nashville.

Magill: We escaped from California.

Leahy: (Laughter) Thank you. You escaped. And I think you got out in the nick of time.

Magill: We did actually we actually came here in 2018 and purchased that building and redeveloped it in an, opened the store in 2020 in May. And you guys came up and we did a competition between you and you guys practiced a little bit, and that was the first time you really ever shot.

Leahy: I had never. Lenny, it’s very interesting because you’ve been doing a public service here with me, because I’ve always, I’m a big Second Amendment guy, but personally I’ve always been a little bit nervous around guns. I had never shot a gun in my life.

Magill: We have a lot of customers just like that. And we’ve got a unique facility because they can come up and train in a private room with an instructor one on one versus a lane shooting environment where there are people shooting on either side of you. It’s really nice for new people to learn how to shoot.

Leahy: Crom, when you and I went over there and did our training on this, that’s what struck me. It’s interesting because again, never having shot a gun, as people go to these gun ranges and they do the lane thing, they got this Shoot 270 thing. It totally changes it.

Carmichael: My instructor because I’ve watched people on tv shoot at targets. And so I took the right stance. You didn’t, I took the right stance.

Leahy: There he goes again.

Carmichael: No, my instructor said you’ve shot before. And I said, no, I just know how to stand. I said it’s a lot like golf. (Leahy laughs) Think people think I know how to play golf until I start my swing. (Laughter)

Magill: You wear the right clothes, you look good.

Carmichael: And stand over the ball just right. (Laughs)

Leahy: You’ve got your eighth annual open house coming up next month.

Magill: It’s actually the third annual. And we got here in 2018, like I said, and opened the store, 2020, 2021, 2022. So we really, this is our third annual reunion or anniversary, and it’s a really a big event. We get a bunch of people there, we have a bunch of vendors there, and we give away a bunch of free stuff and just have a bun. It’s a party.

Leahy: Two years ago, it was an awful lot of fun.

Carmichael: I was there last year for the grand opening, and then I was there last year. There’s more stuff now going. With your annual deals, then there was your grand opening. You have lots of vendors. And you had a big crowd. It is fun.

Magill: We had a food truck, of course, and we had the shaved ice we gave away. So it’s a fun time, and we have a bunch of prizes and then someone actually can get to win a gun too. So we are giving away a gun. That’s just come in, you get your raffle ticket, and you don’t have to be present to win, but you have to show up to get the raffle ticket.

Leahy: If you don’t win the gun, you have about 10 percent off everything in the store.

Magill: We also do discounts on all the things we manufacture. So it’s basically a 10 percent discount across there. And we also have a really cool special we’re gonna do this year. The Glock 43X is the slim line gun and we’re gonna be doing a special price on those. Can’t really mention the price because Glock’s pretty specific about their map pricing. However, we are gonna give $50 off that retail price.

Leahy: Also, you’re gonna have some competitions for the public challenges to see if you’re the fastest, most accurate shooter in Nashville.

Magill: Yes. As I said, we’ve got these unique shooting rooms, and so we can set up these little courses of fire, and we’d like people to come up, and we’d like to challenge them to see, everybody can shoot, right? Everybody thinks they can do it, but how fast can you be and how accurate can you be?

And so we have a little course of fire that really involves, three different targets in three different directions. And we have a timer, and we’ll put you up, and whoever wins will win a membership for the Shoot 270 range.
