Crom’s Crommentary: Concerns for Government Ramped Up Spending in a Lame Duck Session

Dec 2, 2022

Live from Music Row, Friday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed the original all-star panelist Crom Carmichael to the studio for another edition of Crom’s Crommentary.

CROM CARMICHAEL:

Michael, there are three articles in the let’s see; one of them is in The Epoch Times, and two of them are in The Wall Street Journal. I’m going to talk about all three combined on the same subject matter about what is it that if Republicans had power, what would they do or what could they do.

The first article is by Star Parker, and this is one of the best articles. If somebody gets a chance to search it and find it, or if they’re an Epoch Times subscriber and haven’t read it. The title is Kevin McCarthy a Republican Leader for Complex Times. Let me just give you a couple of quotes here. She says, “My own belief in convictions are known. We need dramatic change to pull the nation out of our fiscal, cultural and moral chaos. But the phrase, the art of politics, it didn’t come from nowhere.

Politics is indeed an art and the art of knowing what can be done and when.”Now I’m going to add to Star’s comments here, and how. because it is how you go about trying to accomplish things, in my belief, that determines whether or not you are able to do it.”

And I’m reflecting on the book, Michael, that I just finished that I highly recommend by Henry Kissinger called Leadership, where he takes six world leaders in the past 70 years, and he talks about what they did and what they saw as what needed to be done.

And in every one of those cases, history shows them to be great leaders, but also shows that the other people at that time believed that what they were doing was not possible or should not be done.

Now, the second article is by James Freeman, who I normally like. He’s with The Wall Street Journal. And the title of his is Can This Man Defuse the Debt Bomb? And this ties right into Star Parker’s article about what can you do?

And James Freeman is saying that John Thune is the one Republican who is willing to cut Social Security and Medicare benefits. Now, this may be the dumbest article that I have heard that I have seen, anybody intelligent write.

And the idea of Republicans trying to defuse the so-called debt bomb by primarily focusing on entitlements for people who have worked their butts off for their entire life and have earned them through Social Security and Medicare, the idea of doing that is absolutely preposterous.

And so those two articles tie right in together. And the last one is Democrats want a lame-duck spending blowout. So here you have Star Parker talking about what can be done and what can’t be done. Republicans right now, here in December, still have no power.

The Democrats can pass anything that they want to. And the Democrats apparently want to spend trillions of dollars more. Trillions of dollars more. And what they’re going to do is they’re going to throw in tens of billions of dollars of new defense spending to try to attract some Republicans in the Senate.

And so what we’ve been going through for the last two years with inflation is all due to ramped-up government spending. There is now a great concern that we’re going to have ramped-up government spending all passed in a lame-duck session.

Phil Williams’ Use of Phone Call Recorded by ‘Someone in the Room’ Not a Party to the Call in NewsChannel 5 Report Raises Questions About His Journalistic Credibility

Matthew Giffin, a reporter for The Tennessee Star, and Michael Patrick Leahy, editor-in-chief and CEO of The Star, questioned the legality of News Channel 5’s airing of a so-called secret recording of a call between Tennessee State Representative Todd Warner (R-Chapel Hill) and Americans for Prosperity – Tennessee (AFP-TN) State Director Tori Venable.

On Monday, the news outlet ran investigative reporter Phil Williams’ 8-minute anti-school choice hit piece focused on AFP-TN’s push for state lawmakers to advance the governor’s bill.

Author Peter Schweizer Reveals the Reason Why American Leaders Refuse to Push Back on China

Peter Schweizer, author of Blood Money: Why the Powerful Turn a Blind Eye While China Kills Americans, said a majority of U.S. leaders are silent on China’s role in inciting American issues due to their personal, financial entanglement with the foreign nation.

Schweizer said his book focuses on a multitude of American issues – including crime and drugs – and details the “overwhelming evidence” connecting China to such issues.
