Crom’s Crommentary: A New Book Highlights Why We Should Get Rid of Public Employee Unions

Mar 6, 2023

Live from Music Row, Monday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Leahy welcomed the original all-star panelist Crom Carmichael to the studio for another edition of Crom’s Crommentary.

CROM CARMICHAEL:

Michael, for more than two years here, I have been advocating for the elimination of government employee unions because they’re harmful to our country and they create a special interest that has an insatiable appetite which results in terrible public policy.

There’s now a book described in an article Public Unions Versus the People. Not Accountable: Rethinking the Constitutionality of Public Employee Unions. It’s written by Philip Howard. Philip Howard has written a book that talks about the problem that we have with public employee unions and how they are in business only to increase their size and not to benefit the public. I’m gonna quote from it. It says, this week, the New York Transit Union gave an example for the ages.

Now, by the way, you could do this with any public employee union. This is just an example of one, it blocked the subway system’s plan to sync its schedule to new ridership norms with fewer trains on slow days and lightly traveled routes and more trains on busy. The change would’ve saved $1.5 million a year, benefited riders, and preserved unions paid hours.

But an arbiter shelved it Tuesday because the union couldn’t bear the variations in start and end times. Howard says, goes on to say they’re not just inefficient they are designed to be inefficient. And, by the way, this is true. For example, with, with, uh, any government-run school system. You have the teachers who I have said toil in the fields trying to educate our children. And then you have the bureaucrats who do everything they can to destroy education.

And in Nashville, those bureaucrats are a number in the thousands. And many of them sit over on Bransford Avenue and concoct really dumb ideas to try to force our children to learn things that are useless or to learn things that are harmful and do everything they can to not teach those things that actually matter. And so now there’s a book and the person who wrote this book happens to be like me, 74 years of age. And so at 74, we’re not over the hill yet, Michael.

Phil Williams’ Use of Phone Call Recorded by ‘Someone in the Room’ Not a Party to the Call in NewsChannel 5 Report Raises Questions About His Journalistic Credibility

Matthew Giffin, a reporter for The Tennessee Star, and Michael Patrick Leahy, editor-in-chief and CEO of The Star, questioned the legality of News Channel 5’s airing of a so-called secret recording of a call between Tennessee State Representative Todd Warner (R-Chapel Hill) and Americans for Prosperity – Tennessee (AFP-TN) State Director Tori Venable.

On Monday, the news outlet ran investigative reporter Phil Williams’ 8-minute anti-school choice hit piece focused on AFP-TN’s push for state lawmakers to advance the governor’s bill.

Steve Baker, a current opinion contributor for Blaze News and an investigative journalist, said he is being treated as a “terrorist” by the weaponized Department of Justice (DOJ) for covering the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, as an independent journalist.

Baker has been charged with four misdemeanors for being present at the Capitol on January 6.

Author Peter Schweizer Reveals the Reason Why American Leaders Refuse to Push Back on China

Peter Schweizer, author of Blood Money: Why the Powerful Turn a Blind Eye While China Kills Americans, said a majority of U.S. leaders are silent on China’s role in inciting American issues due to their personal, financial entanglement with the foreign nation.

Schweizer said his book focuses on a multitude of American issues – including crime and drugs – and details the “overwhelming evidence” connecting China to such issues.
